The Crestwood Civic Club began in 1914 — 6 years before women in the United States gained the right to vote — as a way for women to participate in the Crestwood community. In 1915, the club raised funds for a brick sidewalk stretching from Waugh's Store — now a PNC Bank — to the Crestwood Post Office.
Members have since installed street lights and fire alarms, we support 5 local schools, organized home and garden tours, art & garden markets that have become annual events, support various local charities such as Blessings in a Backpack and prison ministries, and have helped fund a new Safe Haven Baby Box at the South Oldham Fire Department.
During the holiday season, the Club buys and distributes clothing, toys and food for families. Throughout the year, the club also contributes monetarily to the Red Cross, provides families with items that can't be purchased with government assistance, such as personal hygiene items, and supplies a community girl with a 4-year college education.
The Club has about 50 active members, most between the ages of 40 and 90.
